Un supergrupo de lujo se prepara para celebrar el 50º aniversario del álbum debut homónimo de Ramones. Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day), Tim Armstrong (Rancid), Travis Barker (blink-182) y el antiguo bajista de Ramones, CJ Ramone, unen fuerzas bajo el nombre de Cretin Family para interpretar clásicos de la banda neoyorquina.
El evento, bautizado como The Official Ramones 50th Anniversary Tribute, tendrá lugar el 30 de agosto en el emblemático cementerio Hollywood Forever de Los Ángeles, y estará presentado por el actor John Travolta. Las entradas ya están disponibles, con la recaudación destinada a la investigación oncológica del David Agus MD Cancer Research en el Ellison Institute.
El supergrupo contará con invitados sorpresa a lo largo de la velada, que además incluirá una proyección doble de la nueva película de Travolta, Propeller One-Way Night Coach, junto a su clásico de terror Carrie, que también celebra su 50 aniversario. El artista Shepard Fairey pondrá música con un set de DJ.
Billie Joe Armstrong declaró: «The spirit of the Ramones is alive in every backyard punk show, punk club and festival. Generation after generation of cretins and weirdos become Ramones lovers. Kids are influenced by the Ramones and they don’t even know it yet. ¡Viva Ramones!»
Tim Armstrong añadió: «From the moment I first heard the Ramones, music was never the same. They are my favorite band of all time! I can’t wait to play those great and perfect Ramones songs with my friends CJ, Travis and Billie. It’s gonna be wild!»
Y Travis Barker apuntó: «The Ramones are the blueprint. Punk rock wouldn’t be what it is today without them. I’m honored to celebrate 50 years of one of the greatest bands ever!!!»
Este tributo en el Hollywood Forever Cemetery es una más de las celebraciones por el 50º aniversario del álbum debut de Ramones, que incluyen una exposición recién inaugurada en el Punk Rock Museum de Las Vegas y varias reediciones planeadas por Rhino Records.
